Hi All,
We would like to inform you that a petition regarding the proposed St John's Co-Cathedral project can be accessed through the FAA website or by following this link http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savestjohns/index.html
FAA feels that the proposed extension risks damaging the Co-Cathedral's fabric and ignores the damage that the excavation of a quarry in the centre of Valletta will inevitably inflict on Valletta's unique historic underground tunnel systems, as well as its impact on the fabric of our old capital, its residents, tourists and commercial community. We appeal to the PM to re-allocate the funds allocated for this project to more beneficial and much more urgent projects.
Moreover at a time of financial crisis, a costly Environment Impact Assessment and an extravagant project costing EUR16 million that has no social, restoration or regeneration contribution is not acceptable from a Foundation which is public in nature, being a joint endeavour of Church and State and so if you agree with our vision, we urge you to sign this petition.
On the 5th of December Malta will be represented by Astrid Vella together with other European nominees for the European Award for Voluntary work. Anyone can vote by visiting http://www.benevolat.eu/en/vote.php and a vote for Astrid would mean a vote for a healthier environment and a better quality of life.
Further to our last email we are delighted to tell you that our ' Island Reflections' art exhibition to be inaugurated at the Casino Maltese on Saturday 29th November at 7.30pm. will now be featuring works by no less than sixty of Malta's leading artists including Tonio Mallia, John Martin Borg, Winston Hassall, Debbie Caruana Dingli, Madeleine Gera, Kenneth Zammit Tabona, Matthew Kassar, CS Lawrence, John Grima, Marisa Attard, John Busuttil Leaver, Cedric Galea Pirotta, Arnold Sultana, Anna Galea, Anthony Calleja, Mark England, Zell Osborne, Antoine Camilleri, Isabelle Borg, Graham Cooper, Jennifer Lonfat, Victor Agius, Joan Zammit Cutajar, Laurent Muller, Philip Chircop, Andrew Borg and Frederick Gingell. In addition to many other artists established in painting, sculpture and photography, we shall also be exhibiting the work of talented new faces.
FAA usually dedicates the funds from its annual art exhibition to a specific cause and we're sure you'll be pleased to know that the profits from this exhibition will be going to support the campaign to save Ramla l-Hamra as the battle to save Malta and Gozo's most beautiful unspoilt beach from speculative development is by no means over. We have received great support in this from the artists involved, many of whom are offering their works at very reasonable prices to give all viewers a range from fine art to Christmas presents.
Viewing a collection of 200 pieces of art from our finest artists while helping to save Malta 's most beautiful iconic beach certainly makes this exhibition the season's must-see!
In keeping with our environmental ethos, we are limiting our use of paper invitations, so please treat this as your official invitation however please let us know if you intend to attend the inauguration by confirming your attendance on contact@ambjentahjar.org. Please note that dress code is smart-casual (jacket, no tie required) as Casino Maltese does not permit entry to persons wearing jeans.
We urgently need volunteers to help us man the supervision shifts during the Art exhibition and other duties. Could anyone who has a few hours to spare contact Patricia Ransley on patricia@ransley.org. Your support would be much appreciated
Regards, The Committee Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar
