Dear Members,
We are happy to tell you that March has kept us busy with some very positive work, as we have been helping a group of artists to organise a collective art exhibition: “The Three Cities – Eve of a Renaissance” in order to support the growing call for the preservation and enhancement of the beauty of the Three Cities. The exhibition is already drawing excellent comments thanks to the participation of twenty of Malta’s leading artists including Andrew Diacono, Tonio Mallia, John Martin Borg, C. S. Lawrence, Winston Hassall, Joan Zammit Cutajar, James Vella Clark, Kenneth Zammit Tabona, Justine Meli Bugeja, John Busuttil Leaver, Rupert Cefai, Maris Zammit, Jacqueline Agius, Henry Alamango, Matthew Cassar, Arlette Zammit, Jennifer Lonfat and photographers Sergio Muscat and Alison Fenech who have produced works in watercolour, acrylics, photography and even sculptures that are as varied as they are rich in inspiration.
We urge to drop round to this exhibition being held at the Maritime Museum, Birgu until the 12th of April as it is well worth a visit. For further information please contact the organiser Ms. Miriam Fiorini by email: mfiorini@onvol.net
Thanks to the generosity of the artists who have kindly agreed to donate part of their takings to FAA’s heritage fund, FAA has kicked off a fund-raising drive in order to restore the 18th-Century altarpiece of St Anne’s Chapel at St Angelo. This beautiful wooden high-relief sculpture of St Anne with the infant Mary is in a poor state of repair and through this initiative we hope to be able to contribute to the heritage of the Three Cities.
Unfortunately, over-development issues never cease, and this week we participated in a press conference in support of the residents of the Wied il-Ghasel side of Mosta, protesting at the granting of an abusive permit to build a large speculative project abutting on their beautiful and supposedly-protected valley. You can read more about it in the attached press release.
Finally, and on a lighter note, following on the success of last year’s quiz night, we are organising a Quiz/Pasta Night at the Preluna Skyroom on the 18th of April 2009. Details may be found by scrolling down, however we would like to add that we have also made provision for gluten-free meals. Do keep this date free and tell your friends as this is a really fun event and we are already starting to take bookings on catz57@onvol.net
