Five NGOs are urging the public to make a detour on their shopping sprees and drop in on tomorrow’s Environment Forum to be held at the Phoenicia Hotel at 10am.
Ramblers' Association of Malta (RAM), Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA), Friends of the Earth (FoE Malta), Nature Trust Malta (NTM) and BirdLife Malta have joined forces to press for speedy remedies to some of the environmental issues that are seen to be jeopardizing the health quality of life of the Maltese public.
Discussion on the deterioration of our urban and rural heritage will focus on Bahrija, Ta’ Baldu (Rabat), Xerri il-Bukkett (Qala), Nadur Cemetery and other controversial projects. The implications of the Delimara Power Station and of the effect of increasing air pollution on human health will be raised along with the need for speedy transport reform, water conservation measures, MEPA reform. Issues concerning built heritage will include the Qormi Armoury, the state of St. Angelo and the lack of consultation on the Valletta Regeneration plans.
Speakers will be Architect Joe Falzon (MEPA Audit Officer), Alex Vella (Ramblers), Astrid Vella (FAA), Prof. Edward Mallia (FoE Malta) and Prof. Victor Asciak (Kummissjoni Ambjent tal-Arcidjocesi ta' Malta) while Lino Bugeja will be moderating.
