Qormi Armoury – Right Site, Fraudulent Applications - 26.07.09

The case of the demolition of part of the Qormi Knights’ period armoury has registered new developments. Contrary to what has been said, the demolished structures have been shown to be an integral part of the Armoury complex by the existence of doors leading from the demolished rooms into the main building. In keeping with the dating of the main building by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, the style of these doorways conforms to that of the late 1500s.

FAA's comments on Renzo Piano's plans for Valletta’s City Gate area - 25.07.09

Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) has studied the Renzo Piano plans for Valletta’s City Gate area, aspects of which are worthy of merit, and will be presenting its views on the various elements in four parts.It is regrettable that regarding the City Gate project “Anything is better than the present ugliness” might be the view of some who fear that that Government might withdraw its plans to improve the entrance to Valletta and to rebuild the Opera House site. FAA finds this type of resigned thinking regrettable.

Criminal Investigation Re. Bahrija Comments - Astrid Vella Questioned - 23.07.09 

Astrid Vella, Coordinator of Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) has been questioned by the police over an alleged libel following investigations carried out by Ramblers Association, FAA and NatureTrust into the permit granted by MEPA for a house to be built in the Bahrija protected area.

Vehicle Emission Health Hazard - 11.07.09  

Flimkien ghal-Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) is concerned about the consequences with regards to the poor performance of the Malta Transport Authority (ADT) in respect of Malta's street pollution, as seen in the most recent example where text messages sent in by citizens, at their own expense to report smoke emitting vehicles, were ignored.

A New Valletta - 01.07.09

Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar welcomes the project to remodel Valletta’s City Gate and the Opera House site. Such rehabilitation calls for major courageous changes but the end-use of the buildings, as well as their design, should be submitted to public consultation. Although an important institution, FAA maintains that Parliament dominating the entrance to Valletta could deliver the wrong message.

NGOs welcome halt to Bahrija Development - 11.06.09

Ramblers, Flimkien ghal-Ambjent Ahjar, NatureTrust and MOAM welcome the news that development on the Bahrija valley site has halted as investigations into the granting of the controversial permit take their course. The NGOs would like to clarify that at no time was any reference made to the permit being issued after the election.

The Ramblers’ Association of Malta, Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar and Nature Trust Malta call for urgent direct intervention by the Prime Minister, as Minister responsible for the MEPA, to stop what they consider to be flagrant disregard of the Structure Plan and its Policies by unaccountable MEPA boards.
