Qormi development destroys 18th century Armoury - 16.04.09

Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar is extremely concerned about the destruction of the Qormi Armoury caused by a series of planning applications submitted to MEPA for the construction of garages, maisonettes and apartments.  Some of these applications had been recommended for refusal by MEPA officials but the changes made to the various applications have resulted in the almost entire destruction of an extremely important historical building dating back to the period of the Knights of the Order of St John.

FAA Clarifies Events - 23.02.09

Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) is reluctantly compelled to reply to the latest attack on FAA’s integrity by a handful of columnists who have a difficulty in accepting the outcome of the St. John’s Co-Cathedral issue. FAA has no problem in confirming that it was summoned to meet the St John’s Foundation, however this only came after we made the project public. No attempt at public consultation or any sort of contact was made during the two years that the Foundation had been dealing with MEPA on the project since 2006.

Flimkien ghal-Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) replies to Mons. Calleja’s statement on the public input for the Environment Impact Assessment, saying that the process is already flawed. Mons. Calleja repeats that the Project Description Statement (project outline) is available from the Valletta Local Council when he knows that the Council had no copies for the public. Important plans were omitted from the print version, while the whole PDS is very sketchy, giving no indications of emergency exits, sanitary facilities or plant and equipment.

St John Project - a great disservice - 12.01.09

Mgr Calleja insists that the Foundation puts the interests of St. John's Co-Cathedral first.  Besides the fact that if allowed, the project will be putting the Cathedral and the underground passages at risk, should not a Foundation that is made up of Church and State also be considering the good of all of Valletta, its residents, tourists and business community?

Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) wholeheartedly supports the firm stand taken by Government as regards bus owners who insist on defying the authorities by refusing to allow their buses to be tested for fuel emissions. The arrogant attitude of the Public Transport Association is not to be tolerated and it is time that the pollution caused by these buses is eradicated.
